On June 8th, at 20:30, TUSCAN ENGLISH ACADEMY and CINEMA ARSENALE / BARSENALE will once again join forces to present a ‘ENGLISH MOVIE HAPPY HOUR’ after the 18:30 English screening of ‘Focus’ – a new romantic crime thriller starring Will Smith.

This is the final ‘EMHH’ OF THE SEASON! The next one will be in September 2015!

‘ENGLISH MOVIE HAPPY HOUR’ – A new cultural meeting point for Pisa’s English-speaking community.

TUSCAN ENGLISH ACADEMY, in line with its philosophy of ‘Imparare l’Inglese attraverso le tue passioni (‘Learn English through your passions’), has teamed up with CINEMA ARSENALE to create a new series of cinematic events in English that aim to bring together Pisa’s unique international community of students, professors, travelers and English-loving locals.

CINEMA ARSENALE has long hosted quality English films in their original language and now they will start following some of these screenings with a new ‘ENGLISH MOVIE HAPPY HOUR’ – the perfect opportunity to practice your English while sharing your impressions and interpretations with film-lovers from around the world!

When cinema is at its best, its impressions linger with us long after the credits roll and the lights come up, and we are excited about providing a platform where film-lovers from around the world can meet and exchange their impressions and perspectives, all in the warm, informal atmosphere of a traditional ‘Happy Hour.’

Prof. Shemtov, founder of TUSCAN ENGLISH ACADEMY, will be on hand to offer some linguistic support for English speakers of all levels, as well as provide some background and insight into many of the film’s unusual phrases and terminology.

'ENGLISH IN A SUMMER GARDEN' Full-Immersion Summer Courses!!!

A ‘full-immersion’ summer course to help you communicate with the world.

This original course format provides English students of all levels the opportunity to quickly improve their English skills over the summer months by providing an intensive ‘full-immersion’ experience within the relaxing and stimulating atmosphere of the exquisite Casa Gentili garden.

Nothing helps one learn more than being at ease, and few places will put you at ease like this idyllic historical oasis nestled in the peaceful countryside between Pisa and Lucca (see map below).

In addition to this magical setting, the subject matter of these courses will also revolve around the creative arts, particularly literature and cinema, so as to inspire the imagination and open the mind to new knowledge and language acquisition.

Course Program: Intense Work and Leisure

 

Each of these courses will be comprised of 3 consecutive evening sessions, 5 hours each, and will feature a carefully balanced program of intense concentration and study, coupled with more casual social activities (maximum 10 participants), not unlike what one experiences while attending conferences, working or studying abroad, etc.

Each of the three evening session will be structured as follows:

• First 90-minute language lesson focusing on the most challenging grammar points and linguistic skills appropriate to the specific level of the course. We will use literary texts and recordings, as well as portions of films to help illustrate the practical use of the subjects covered in the lesson.

• 30-minute coffee break during which the group will chat, review notes and rest.

• Second 90-minute language lesson during which we will practice and further explore the themes introduced in the first lesson. Here, too, art, literature and cinema will serve as the focal point of these exercises.

• A relaxing walk along the Serchio river during which we will freely discuss the topics from the evening’s lessons as well as any other linguistic questions students may have.

• A tasty buffet dinner will conclude the evening and provide an informal setting where we can freely discuss any topic of interest and help build confidence for using English in real-life social situations.

All activities will be conducted entirely in English and with the support of the instructor.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 16:00 to 21:00

Elementary:

• Session (1) => July 6, 7 and 8
• Session (2) => August 10, 11 and 12

Intermediate:

• Session (1) => July 13, 14  and 15
• Session (2) => August 17, 18 and 19

Upper-Intermediate:

• Session (1) => July 20, 21 and 22
• Session (2) => August 3, 4 and 5

Course Fee

Prof. Shemtov

 

All courses will be led entirely by Prof. Shemtov, a native speaker from N.Y. with certification from both the University of Cambridge and Berlitz. He has been successfully using these diverse teaching styles for over 15 years in N.Y., Prague, Berlin and Pisa.

In 2014 he founded the Tuscan English Academy with the intent of offering innovative new language programs that incorporate the best elements of each teaching style and draw upon his vast range of experience teaching individuals and groups of all levels, professions and walks of life.

The underlying philosophy of all these programs is ‘Learn English through your passions,’ since we believe that when the mind is genuinely interested and engaged, language acquisition becomes an act of pleasure, and students are able to grasp and maintain new skills with far greater efficiency.

If you cancel within one week before the scheduled starting date of the course, you can choose between receiving an 80% refund or using the entire paid amount towards another Tuscan English Academy course. If you cancel less than a week before the scheduled starting date of the course, you can choose between receiving a a 50% refund or using 80% of the paid amount towards another Tuscan English Academy course.

Non c’è di meglio per apprendere nuovi concetti che sentirsi a proprio agio, come quando si entra in questo giardino cintato, immerso nella campagna tra Pisa e Lucca.

Il materiale utilizzato per il corso, basato sulle arti creative, letteratura e cinema, fornisce ulteriore elemento di ispirazione per l’immaginazione e apre la mente a nuove conoscenze, favorendo così la formazione e una proprietà di linguaggio.

Lo studio intenso e il piacere di conversare

 

Ogni corso svolto durante 3 pomeriggi consecutivi di 5 ore ciascuno, ha un programma bilanciato di studio con intensa concentrazione e occasioni di socializzazione (max 10 partecipanti) che ricreano situazioni in cui l’utilizzo dell’inglese è quello di conferenze, viaggi di studio o di lavoro.

Ciascuno dei tre pomeriggi è strutturato secondo il seguente schema:

• Una prima lezione di 90 minuti: focalizzata sui più importanti elementi grammaticali e  conoscenze linguistiche, appropriate a ciascun dei tre livelli del corso; i testi di letteratura, le registrazioni audio e gli spezzoni di film vengono utilizzati come base per apprendere l’utilizzo degli specifici elementi linguistici

• Un break di 30 minuti: dà l’opportunità al gruppo di scambiarsi opinioni, controllare gli appunti e fare una pausa

• Una seconda lezione di 90 minuti durante le quale vengono messi in pratica e approfonditi i temi introdotti all’inizio della lezione; ancora una volta arte, letteratura e cinema sono l’elemento principale per fare esercizio della lingua inglese.

• Una rilassante passeggiata lungo l’argine del fiume Serchio, offre l’opporunità di innescare discussioni libere sugli argomenti delle lezioni e per rispondere a domande e curiosità linguistiche che gli partecipanti possono avere.

• Una piccola cena a buffet conclude la serata, è l’occasione di socializzazione dove mettere in pratica la propria capacità di conversare in una situazione di tutti i giorni.

Tutte le atività sono svolte solo in lingua inglese e alla presenza dell’insegnante.
